Pasifika rugby ..

What a brilliant idea

.

The Super Rugby tournament (involving New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa) is pakeha (white) oriented, and yet so many great players are Polynesian.

Now it is reported that the Polynesians might have their own team.

After being ignored by much of world rugby for years, Pacific rugby could be in for a major and well overdue boost, if a report is to be believed.
APN is reporting that a Pacific Island team is to receive an invitation to play in the restructured Super 15 competition from 2016.
Based in Auckland, the Pacific Islands team would be aligned with New Zealand in the proposed rejigged tournament.

The Super Rugby tournament looks certain to change drastically after the 2015 Rugby World Cup and this latest proposal would also see a team from Japan join the 18-team competition, which would be aligned with the Australian conference.

With Auckland's large Pasifika population, the city would seem to be the obvious place to host the team, and may look to wrest supporters from the Blues.

And not only would they play magnificently (my money would be put on them), but they would be really great to watch.
